Interested in meeting some of your fellow members of the geoblogosphere? Read on!

It’s that time of the year again, when nearly everyone who’s anyone in the geoscience community (and can afford both the time and money) converges on San Francisco for the annual American Geophysical Conference at Moscone Center.

I’m planning on attending one way or another (one option involves a top-secret art project, the other is trying to potentially obtain press credentials on behalf of the Geology News blog). Of course it’s fairly easy for me to (at least try to) attend the conference since I live in San Francisco proper and Moscone Center is roughly a 20 minute walk from my apartment.

Kim Hannula at All of My Faults Are Stress Related is leading the effort to organize a meet up among your fellow geobloggers.

The details so far:
When: Wednesday, December 17th, 2008 at 7:00pm.
Where: The Thirsty Bear Restaurant and Brewery at 661 Howard St. (Map)

If you want more details, comment either here or on Kim’s site and we’ll get everything straightened out! Stay tuned!

I have also added a small widget at the top of the left hand side bar to quickly links to this page. No need to bookmark and go searching for the latest information!

Also, I may also try to get in on the live blogging phenomenon myself, both via this website and the Geology News Twitter feed (which is quite a bit easier to update via my phone). I’ll have to explore some plugin options to import the Geology News Twitter feed into WordPress.

I wish I could make it into SF, but probably won’t be able to. If anyone is sneaking away to Yosemite or the Sierra Foothills during the conference, send me a note and I will get you some advice about collecting sites and so on. If you pass through Modesto, let me know!

Aww, I’m sorry you won’t be able to join us.

I wonder if there are some field trips during AGU? If so, I guess the Sierras are probably too far away for any AGU sponsored day trips.

You guys and gals have fun! Major bummer I won’t be joining you this year, but I’ve assuaged my sense of loss by hanging out with ~100 Virginia geologists earlier today at a great symposium in Charlottesville. I recommend that you AGU-geobloggers be required to drink a toast for every new blog in the geoblogosphere in the past twelve months. Have fun!

Hah, sounds good! That’s going to hurt though.

Anyway, shame you’ll be missing out. Maybe next time!

In the 20-odd years I’ve attended AGU there have never been any field trips, except one on Sunday for the press. On off days, people go to Union Square and go Christmas shopping instead!
