Accretionary Wedge – Call for (*LATE*) November Submissions! [Field Work]
Alright, I was quite busy last month, so I ended up forgetting that I was responsible for the November 2008 edition of The Accretionary Wedge. No big deal! We’ll just roll it into December and have a 2 for 1 deal going on! (My apologies).
The topic this month?
Favorite places to do field work!
Whether you’re a student, researcher, or in the industry, what is your absolute favorite place that you’ve done field work in? Where and why? What were you working on and what made it so great?
Show some us some photos, Google maps links (or even better, geologic maps).
Get your submissions posted and into me by this Sunday, December 7th and we’ll go ahead and get a post up!

Owens Valley, California would be my favorite. It has an amazing diversity of geological process and features, superb mineral-collecting localities and great swimming holes and other recreational escapes.
Owens Valley is great! The picture at the beginning of this post is actually from Owens Valley, specifically Haystack Butte near Lone Pine.
I was going to ask if that was the granite hill near Lone Pine…I assume you were searching for aquamarine and amazonite….
Exactly right. We were hunting for pegmatites basically.
Well, a nice topic that fits perfectly with the series I have been doing about the Colorado Plateau. I’ve started my contribution at http://geotripper.blogspot.com/2008/12/cretaceous-parks-of-colorado-plateau.html , but it will probably progress over two or three posts this week.

Yeah, it’s still happening. It’s been a busy week, so I haven’t finished the post yet.
I’ll get it up today!
