This past week, I was back home, spending the Thanksgiving holiday at my parent’s house. Incidentally enough, this is in the house that I grew up in my entire life. The house I grew up in is in the town of Mentone, California. It’s located in a very small, rural part of Southern California.

As I was driving through my old stomping grounds this weekend, and looking at some of the places I used to ride bikes to with my childhood friends, I couldn’t help but think, “did this town influence me to become a geologist?”

Here are some street signs I snapped around this small town.

Mentone Street Signs - Olivine Ave

Mentone Street Signs - Malachite Ave

Mentone Street Signs - Agate Ave

Mentone Street Signs - Amethyst St.

Mentone Street Signs - Beryl Ave

Mentone Street Signs - Tourmaline

Mentone Street Signs - Chrysolite Ave

You can see more street signs from Mentone, CA on my Flickr profile.

Dave – 18percentgrey (Omar) here via Twitter. I spent some time living in Redlands, and I had always noticed those signs every time I went to Mentone, or to Forrest Falls. Thanks for the memory jog. =] There’s some neat stuff around that area.

Whoa, that’s pretty crazy! Random connections from the Inland Empire to San Francisco! :)

Cool! Years ago, I helped plan a riddle road rally that went through Mentone. We used some of those road signs for clues…

Oh wow! That’s pretty awesome. Yeah, I always got a kick out of those road signs and remember having a natural curiosity about them while growing up. “Mom, what is chrysolite???”
