Earlier this month, miners in a diamond mine in the African kingdom of Lesotho found one of the largest and nearly perfect diamond specimens ever extracted. The gem was discovered on September 8th and weighed 478 carats and was described as having “very few inclusions and of outstanding color and clarity.”
According to the article, a similar sized diamond with a slightly lower quality of color and clarity recently sold for nearly $12 million U.S. dollars!
The largest diamond ever found was unearthed in January of 1905 in South Africa. It is called the Cullinan Diamond and weighed over 3,000 carats.
