Hurricane Ike Coastal Changes – Before and After Photos

When I wrote the post on the aftermath of Hurricane Ike earlier this week, I mentioned that before and after photographs would probably be coming in the near future.

A new web page from the USGS today shows the devastation left behind on the Bolivar Peninsula from Hurricane Ike (The Bolivar Peninsula is located just northeast of Galveston Island).

The photos are horrific.

    Part of the land is just gone! So the barrier island, at least for now, is not as wide. Man, they were just flattened.

    Yeah. Apparently, there are massive rescue and evacuation operations going on right now in the Bolivar Peninsula as well. The entire area is under curfew.

    Yeah, only a category 2. God forbid what the destruction would have been if it was a 3 or even a 5.
