Geology Picture of the Day – Websterite Thin Section

For today’s choice, I decided to dive into the wonderful world of petrology (a major obstacle in the proper education of any budding geologist). This is a picture of websterite (a type of pyroxenite) under an optical microscope with cross-polarized light.

Update: Special thanks to Ron Schott for correcting my petrology skills (or lack thereof). Websterite is a pyroxenite, not a peridotite as I originally wrote.
